Nine months ago the head coach left for LSU, half the staff went with him and five of six pass catchers were gone. The national read was that Ole Miss was about to pay for its best season ever. Instead the two players everything runs through both came back.
Then later — the shape of those four. Six, eight, 22, and then a 75-spot cliff to 97. Texas's five sit at 2, 7, 9, 12 and 33. Georgia's five are 19, 26, 54, 70 and 88. Mississippi State put two players on this list at 48 and 86, and both rank ahead of the fourth-best Rebel.
Being fair: a hundred names out of roughly ten thousand scholarship players is a brutally small window, and depth by definition does not show up on a list like this. Texas, Georgia, Alabama, Oregon and Texas Tech each placed five.
