Baylor School beat Brentwood Academy 38-20 Thursday night on ESPN2 in Chattanooga — and the quarterback on each sideline is committed to Ole Miss.
Keegan Croucher made his first start for Baylor after transferring in from Cheshire Academy: 172 passing yards and a 39-yard touchdown to Antwaun Adams (MaxPreps). Baylor head coach Erik Kimrey afterward: "I thought that Keegan Croucher made some incredible plays." On the other sideline, Crews Jenkins threw for 230 yards and two scores — 67 yards to Lexton Baskin, 80 to Kesean Bowman.
The conflict is with the twenty-year-old book on this program that Ole Miss cannot recruit a quarterback. Croucher picked the Rebels last October over Oregon and Penn State. Georgia and Kentucky both worked on him this spring, per Chad Simmons of Rivals. Jenkins committed in May knowing Croucher was already in the class.
The honest counterweight: Croucher's ranking has moved — top five at the position in the Rivals300, closer to tenth in the industry composite. These are not equivalent prospects, and an August commitment in a senior year is not a signature.
Then: sixteen days from Louisville, Ole Miss still has not named a right tackle. Tommy Kinsler IV from Miami against Carius Curne from LSU, per Sports Illustrated's Tanner Shapiro. Four of five spots are settled. This is the fifth.
