The honest counterweight is substantial. Louisville went 9-4 last year, Jeff Brohm's third straight season at nine wins or better, and they finished it with a bowl win. It is a neutral site, not Vaught-Hemingway. Ole Miss has a first-year head coach who is also calling the defense.
Then take two. North Dakota State is laying that exact same number on Saturday against Jacksonville State — in the first FBS game in the history of the program. This take says out loud why that is arithmetic rather than disrespect, and then hands you the number that actually is a verdict: FanDuel has Ole Miss at 7.5 regular-season wins, tied for sixth in the SEC with Oklahoma.
For contrast on that same board, Florida State is laying 30.5 and USC is laying 38.5. That is what a sportsbook saying it does not believe the opponent belongs on the field looks like. Nobody is saying that about Louisville — and nobody is saying it about Ole Miss either.
