Two institutional segments on the Monday after Ole Miss beat No. 7 LSU 32-24. First: the recruiting collapse everybody promised after Lane Kiffin left never arrived. On Sunday afternoon Ole Miss landed a commitment from Braylen Bedford, a safety in the 2028 class. Rivals ranks him No. 44 nationally and the No. 4 safety in his class. He's a Mississippi native who plays at Brentwood Academy in Brentwood, Tennessee, and he chose Ole Miss over Tennessee and Kentucky among others. Head coach Pete Golding and safeties coach Wes Neighbors have recruited him for years; Donte Moncrief is on the recruiting staff. He's the third commitment in that class. On Golding, he said: "The way he just became the head coach and he's already winning." The honest counterweight: 2028 is a long way out, commitments move, and nobody should hang a program's future on one recruiting ranking. Second segment: the two polls released Sunday read the same weekend two different ways. In the AP Top 25, Ole Miss went 8th to 4th and picked up three first-place votes. In the US LBM Coaches Poll, Ole Miss went 9th to 6th with 1,501 points and zero first-place votes. LSU fell to 10th in the AP and 11th in the Coaches. CBS Sports' Brandon Marcello went further, writing that Ole Miss should be the outright No. 1 team in the country on the strength of the nation's best resume, two ranked wins, and a 24-1 home record since 2023. The counterweight there: Texas is 3-0 and has been No. 1 all year, and Ole Miss gave up 17 unanswered on Saturday. A team that nearly lost at home is not an obvious No. 1. Three writers put Ole Miss first and not one coach did. Which group do you trust? Tell me in the comments. Locked On Ole Miss Hits — quick takes on the Rebels every weekday.
