Texas is 4-2 and 1-2 in the SEC, has lost two straight, and fell from No. 1 in the AP poll to No. 19 in two weeks. One more loss and the Longhorns are finished - and Ole Miss is the next team in front of them. John Fourcade, on this show Monday: "One more loss for Texas and they're done. You know, they're sitting there with two losses, and run the table, people say okay, they ran the table, you got two losses." Texas has to win out, starting against the seventh-ranked team in America with its best defensive player expected to be out. The counterweight is Pete Golding's own: he put Texas's struggles down to "a lot of bad luck, to be honest with you" - drops and tipped balls - and called the Texas defense "a really, really talented defense. Very, very good scheme, very multiple." Golding is writing nobody off. Second segment: Golding on the expanded Playoff - "It was going to be extremely hard if you did not expand it with the caliber of teams." Expansion is why both of these teams are alive on the third Saturday of October. The committee's first rankings land Tuesday, Nov. 3 - 13 days away - and nothing has been written down yet.
