On the table: expulsion, membership probation, schools refusing to take the field against a team carrying a player the conference says is ineligible, and a federal lawsuit by the conference against one of its own members. The SEC bylaws run 48 pages and the word expulsion is not in them. But Section 4.12 lets the presidents impose probation, bar a member from the championship, bar it from league competition — and impose any other penalty they consider appropriate. LSU comes to Oxford in 18 days. Then the other half: Pete Golding kept the defensive headset for his first opener as a head coach, met both staffs in the same day, and told on his own defense — Saturday's mock game gave up explosive plays to communication, not scheme.
